The National Black Lawyers – Top 100  Lawyers is an invitation-only national organization composed of America’s Premier Lawyers. Membership is extended solely to a select few of the most qualified attorneys from each state who exemplify superior qualifications of leadership, reputation, influence, stature and profile as lawyers practicing in designated aspects of the law. It is the mission of The National Black Lawyers – Top 100  to provide networking opportunities, advocacy training and the highest quality educational programs for lawyers.

Eligibility for Top 100:

Membership in The National Black Lawyers is limited to the Top 100 Lawyers or Non- Black Attorneys that promote diversity from each state who serve individuals, families and businesses in the legal system. Members of The National Black Lawyers – Top 100  are encouraged to nominate their peers for membership who practice in the specialty areas Civil Plaintiff, Criminal Defense, Matrimonial and Family Law, Civil Rights, Bankruptcy Law, Social Security Disability Law, Immigration Law, Employment Law, Wills, Trusts and Estates, Banking and Finance, Business Formation, Business Labor and Employment Law, Business Transactions, Corporate Law, Litigation Defense, Intellectual Property, Trademark and Patents, Real Estate, Securities and Antitrust Defense, Taxation, Judiciary and Law Professor. Prospective members are carefully screened before being invited to join. The criteria for membership include:

  • Reputation among peers, the judiciary and the public
  • Achievements as specialty lawyers
  • Board certification in their areas of specialty
  • Nominations from leading lawyers, current members and Executive Committee members
  • Leadership and membership in other national and state specialty lawyer organizations
  • Rankings and ratings by leading national evaluation organizations and associations

Eligibility for Top 40 Under 40:

To encourage and recognize distinguished black lawyers under the age of 40, The National Black Lawyers – Top 40 Under 40 invites its members to submit nominations of outstanding black attorneys younger than the age of 40 for inclusion in our National Black Lawyers – Top 40 Under 40 section. Only 40 black lawyers and non-black attorneys that promote diversity from each state will be selected for membership each year. Nominees should demonstrate superior leadership, reputation, influence, stature and profile as a black lawyer.

  • At least 3 years of experience as a lawyer
  • Reputation among peers, the judiciary and the public
  • Achievements, settlements and verdicts as a lawyer
  • Nominations from leading lawyers, current members and Executive Committee members
  • Leadership and membership in other national and state specialty lawyer organizations
  • Rankings and ratings by leading national evaluation organizations

Memberships are reviewed annually to assure that the membership of The National Black Lawyers – Top 100  is made up of only the premier attorneys from each state or region. All members are automatically reconsidered for membership but not automatically re-invited annually.
