The National Black Lawyers – Top 100 allows only members to nominate other attorneys who have exhibited outstanding leadership for the following practice areas:

Eligibility for Top 100:

Membership in The National Black Lawyers – Top 100 is limited to the Top 100 lawyers in each state. Members of The National Black Lawyers are encouraged to nominate their peers for membership. Prospective members are then carefully screened before being invited to join. The criteria for membership include:

  • Reputation among peers, the judiciary and the public
  • Achievements as a specialist in the above practice areas
  • Board certification as a lawyer in a specialty area
  • Nominations from leading lawyers, current members and Executive Committee members of the National Advocates
  • Leadership and membership in other national and state specialty organizations
  • Rankings and ratings by leading national evaluation organizations

Eligibility for Top 40 Under 40:

To encourage and recognize distinguished black lawyers under the age of 40, The National Black LawyersTop 40 Under 40 invites its members to submit nominations of outstanding black attorneys younger than the age of 40 for inclusion in our National Black LawyersTop 40 Under 40 section. Only 40 black lawyers from each state or region will be selected for membership each year. Nominees should demonstrate superior leadership, reputation, influence, stature and profile as a black lawyer. The membership committee will consider:

  • At least 3 years of experience as a lawyer
  • Reputation among peers, the judiciary and the public
  • Achievements, settlements and verdicts as a lawyer
  • Nominations from leading lawyers, current members and Executive Committee members
  • Leadership and membership in other national and state specialty lawyer organizations
  • Rankings and ratings by leading national evaluation organizations

Nominees must be lawyers actively practicing in the areas of law listed above. Memberships are reviewed annually to assure that the membership of The National Black Lawyers – Top 100 is made up of only the top attorneys from each state or region. All members are automatically reconsidered for membership but not guaranteed acceptance.
