The NBL Top 40 Under 40 recognizes the top 40 lawyers from each state who are under the age of 40 and who promote our purpose through the services they provide for individuals, families, and businesses in their state.

Who can join The National Black Lawyers Top 100?

Each year, we invite 100 of the best black attorneys in each state who promote diversity and equality in the legal system to join The National Black Lawyers Top 100. We rigorously vet each potential member to be sure they meet certain criteria before an invitation is extended:

  • At least 10 years of experience as a lawyer
  • Outstanding reputation among peers, the judiciary and the public
  • Notable achievements, settlements, and verdicts as specialty lawyers
  • Board certification in their areas of specialty
  • Nominations from other leading lawyers and current NBL members
  • Membership in other national and statewide specialty lawyer organizations
  • Rankings/ratings by leading national evaluation organizations and associations

Who can join The National Black Lawyers Top 40 Under 40?

Each year, we invite 40 of the most talented black attorneys from each state who are under the age of 40 to join The National Black Lawyers Top 40 Under 40. We encourage current members to nominate their peers for our selection process. Nominees must meet the following criteria in order to receive an invitation:

  • At least three years of experience as a lawyer
  • Outstanding reputation among peers, the judiciary and the public
  • Notable achievements, settlements, and verdicts as a lawyer
  • Nominations from leading lawyers, current members, and Executive Committee members
  • Leadership and membership in other national and state specialty lawyer organizations
  • Rankings and ratings by leading national evaluation organizations
