Ms. Chanell Autrey currently works as Legislative Counsel in the Office of Councilmember Kenyan McDuffie, Councilmember for Ward 5 in the District of Columbia. In that capacity, Ms. Autrey drafts policing-related legislation for the District of Columbia and conducts oversight functions for the Metropolitan Police Department, Office of Police Complaints, Office of Victim Services, and the D.C. Sentencing and Criminal Code Revision Commission.

A native of Washington, D.C, Ms. Autrey graduated from Pennsylvania State University with distinction and received her Bachelors of Arts in Political Science, French, and International Studies. In 2012, she graduated from George Washington University Law School and received the Thurgood Marshall Civil Rights and Civil Liberties Award, an award given to one member of the graduating class who has demonstrated outstanding performance in and dedication to the field of civil rights and civil liberties.  Ms. Autrey is the immediate past president of the GW Black Law Alumni Association and an Executive Board Member of the GW Law Alumni Association. Ms. Autrey also serves as a mentor with BePolished, which empowers girls in single parent households to exude “Life Etiquette”.
