Jennifer D. Newton is an attorney in the Miami office of Shutts & Bowen LLP, where she is a member of the Financial Services Practice Group.
Jennifer's practice focuses on a variety of financial services matters, including consumer finance and banking regulatory, transactional and compliance matters. She has extensive litigation, regulatory compliance, public policy and legislative experience representing various clients in a broad range of consumer financial services matters and product lines.
Prior to joining the firm, Jennifer was counsel for the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB), where she worked on fair lending and other consumer financial services matters. She also previously worked for a large financial services company, where she worked on a variety of regulatory compliance matters and oversaw the development of policies and procedures designed to address CFPB and other regulatory requirements.
Jennifer is a graduate of the Florida State University and Loyola University School of Law in New Orleans. While in law school, she was an active participant in mock trial and moot court, earning the Loyola Law Excellence Award in Moot Court and the Association of Trial Lawyers-Board of Advocates Justice Skelly Wright Chapter Award. Jennifer also received the Equal Justice Works Summer Corps Fellowship, the Florida Bar Public Interest Summer Fellowship and the ABA's Judicial Intern Opportunity Fellowship, where she was awarded a judicial internship with the Honorable Jerald P. Bagley in the Eleventh Judicial Circuit of Florida. Following law school, she served as a judicial law clerk to the Honorable George J. Larke, Jr. in the 32nd Judicial District Court of Louisiana.
